Working on our exercise form is a process that takes months, years, or maybe even a lifetime. One of the keys to getting better form is to get stronger every day, because a lot of bad form stems from weak muscles. In order to avoid bad form, I modified my exercises a lot until I got strong enough to do them properly. _ I'm posting about #lunges  today because last week I was at the gym and saw someone doing walking lunges on their toes. Being a person with a knee injury, I told her in the nicest way possible about keeping her weight in her heel, and she commented to me that her knees hurt a lot after working out! So I'm sharing this post in the hopes to help a few more people avoid knee pain too! Here are some things to look out for. _ SAVE THE LEAN FOR YOUR CUISINE Be sure when doing this not to put the weight in the front of your foot or lean forward. I know that especially if you're doing walking lunges, it seems counterintuitive because you want to move forward! But putting weight in the toe will create more pressure on the knee. Ideally you would be able to wiggle your toes, which is a good indicator that your weight isn't predominantly there. _ ELEVATOR, NOT ESCALATOR Be sure to be pushing up evenly with the foot, keeping the body upright, not leaning forward (think elevator, not escalator)! Also don't let your knee buckle inwards or bend outwards. _ ALWAYS IMPROVING UPON MY FORM TOO Remember how I mentioned that form is a process and we are constantly getting better? Something I noticed about my form here is that my shoulders are slightly forward, even in the "better form" image. This is also why I like taking pictures or watching myself in the mirror, because sometimes it's the only way we can critique our own form and get better! Nobody is perfect or has perfect form, but we can all get stronger together! posting this picture from yesterday because I'm currently laying in bed wishing I wasn't as sick as I am. 😷🤧 . It's week 2 of the @bodybuildingcom #250kchallenge  & they want to know what's your secret for rapid recovery! For me, it's usually BCAA's (my current fav is @optimumnutrition's Amino Energy in Cotton Candy) & foam rolling but sometimes your body is like "Nope. That's not all I need! Enough is enough." 🙅🏻 And asks for more than just that. . We tend to put so much pressure on ourselves which makes us want to do so many things at once that we end up putting wayyyy too much stress on our bodies & it just becomes run down. We have to listen to our bodies when it lets us know that it wants rest and recovery. So that's what I'm doing today. I've been in bed all day trying to rest up and knock this cold. 🤧 . Taking an extra rest day (when needed) doesn't make you a "less-dedicated" person. It actually makes you a smarter athlete. Remember that as you embark on this incredible journey!
