The album is 33 years old today. But on March 12, their first single "It's Like That" & the banger "Sucker M.C.'s" (which was the B-side) made 34. Do I remember where I was when I first heard it? Of course! A few weeks before it's release, my homie Eddie came across me & my boy Mikey @biggauptown184 on the building stoop & asked us if we wanted to hear "something fresh". We went up to his family's crib where Eddie had speakers almost as tall as all three of us in the living room. He popped in a tape & it was a wrap. I was hooked. We must have listened to "Sucker M.C.'s" ten times straight. In awe every time. For those who might not understand, it was that same feeling you got from Rakim or Nas when you first heard them. Now, Spoonie Gee, Melle Mell, Keith Cowboy, the Jazzy 5, & The Fearless Four made me love Hip Hop, but "Sucker M.C'.s" was the song that made me an addict & made me pick up the pen, also made me get my DJ equipment if I ain't have it already (can't remember, fuck it).
Ayo, a mega shout out & RIP to my big brother Eddie who, even though he did not make it into the 90’s, taught all his block brothers something before his untimely passing at the age of 18 or 19 years old. Salute!
