My Tuesday Sprint & Hill classes trained well today. They all rolled there sleeves up and training output was outstanding. Very pleased with them all. Keep it up speed team. I WAS SO IMMERSED IN WHAT I WAS DOING I forgot to take photos of THE MAROUBRA LIONS RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB TRAINING GROUPS whom I took in the evening. This session was extremely challenging. I was super proud of there efforts. THE CLUB IS TRAINING HARD AND ARE HUNGRY TO SUCEED IN 2017. There was a massive recruit drive in the off season by higher management. So there are a lot of new faces down there in 2017 and the place is buzzing with enthusiasm. I LOVE TAKING THEM AS THEY HAVE A SUPER CLUB SPIRIT & ARE A VERY PROFESSIONALLY RUN CLUB. "SPORT CAN BE CRUEL SOMETIMES". Congratulations to all my state athletes on there performances this weekend. My speedandagility.com.au Athletes got 24 PB's, 25 of my 31 Athletes made Finals, 20 are now ranked in the top 4 in NSW and 5 are now ranked in the top 8 in NSW. 2 x Gold Medals, 3 x Silver Medals and 5 x Bronze Medals. SPECIAL MENTION; To Georgi Parkes who won her 400m heat on Friday night easily but had to pull out of the final due to a knee injury. She was assured of a medal in the final, so disappointing but bigger and better next year Georgi. GOOD LUCK TO ALL MY 31 speedandagility.com.au ATHLETES (Some are in this picture) COMPETING THIS FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS AT HOMEBUSH. Be confident and aggressive in everything you do, stay relaxed in races, concentrate on good technique, remember if a race is close it will be the one that keeps there form always that wins, stay focused before your actual race and shut down any or all distractions around you. Be sensible before your races by sitting down in shaded areas if hot or staying dry and under shelter if it's wet, hydrating on fluids and snacking on light foods that give you energy. Listen out to changes in the program and always give yourself enough time to warm up properly before races. Practice your starts, running around the bend. Listen out at the starter and hear if he or she hold the set position for long or short periods. Most of you have multiple events on so make sure you do a warm down stretch after races so you don't get too stiff. Go through your race plan/ tactics in your mind to what you have to do to compete at your best. Watch other races to learn good or bad habits. Make sure you have a good dinner on Thursday / Friday / Saturday nights and breakfasts on the day of your competition. Pack your race bag with plenty of time to spare (eg tighten your spikes, wet weather gear, towel, water bottle, change of clothes) before you leave to go to the carnival as you want to be in a relaxed state of mind. I am proud of you all and wish you all the very best of luck. I obviously care very much how you all perform so please let me know. Send pictures, videos, texts whatever. THE speedandagility.com.au ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AWARD GO'S TO IVVO. His training over this last month has been nothing short of magnificent. He has made state in the U/12 for the 400m, 800m and the triple jump. We have focused over the last month on improving his 200m and 400m times, on his race plan, speed transitions, his technique and his overall speed endurance. Quite simple he needed to roll his sleeves up and work a lot harder. He has done that and some. You do the work the rewards will come your way. Ivvo has certainly done the work BUT he is under no illusions that all his hard work must come together when it counts. This is the test of a true athlete that when required they can pull the big race out. I am confident that Ivvo has done the right work the rest is up to him now. "PERSEVERANCE ALWAYS PAYS OF EVENTUALLY". This young mans victory in the Branch Life Saving flags U/8 championships was completely unexpected. But to me it was no surprise. NEVER MISSES TRAINING, ALWAYS COMPLETES TRAINING and applies himself repeatedly without fail or hesitation and challenges those around him consistently. His PERSEVERANCE, DETERMINATION, and RESOLVE was duly awarded. WORK HARD AND SMART and the REWARDS and RESULTS will come to you. IM SUPER PROUD OF YOU OSCAR, WELL DONE. (SOME FACTS ON BEACH FLAGS) The beach flags event requires competitors to lay on their stomachs facing away from a series of “flags” (short pieces of garden hose) placed in the sand. On the sound of a whistle competitors stand up, turn and race to collect one of the flags. Tom is from Sydney and has moved to Adelaide to pursue his ultimate goal. OZ TAG STATE CUP IN COFFS HARBOUR for 3 consecutive days Friday, Saturday and Sunday where temperatures consistently were above 38 degrees for everyday. I had a total of 43 players that were involved in this tournament from various rep teams. AN THE SYDNEY BRANCH LIFE SAVING CHAMPIONSHIPS down at Sth Maroubra beach. (OZ TAG TEAM RESULTS WHOM I TRAINED) The U/9 STH SYDNEY REP TEAM Boys came 2nd The U/10 STH SYDNEY REP TEAM Girls came 2nd. THE OTHER X FACTOR IS TO INCORPORATE A HILL SESSION IN YOUR SCHEDULE AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK OR ONCE A FORTNIGHT DEPENDING ON YOUR CHILD'S WEEKLY WORK LOAD. I HAVE HAD INCREDIBLE RESULTS WITH MY ATHLETES DUE TO MY HILL SESSIONS. DON'T UNDERESTIMATE HOW GOOD THEY ARE FOR INCREASED PERFORMANCE. The hill that we run up is Approximately 300 metres in length, however all my athletes are catered for in this session as we always start with shorter hills and as the session progresses we gradually extend the lengths of the runs.
